At the age of sixteen, Maria Łączyńska marries the seventy-year-old Count Walewski. Napoleon approaches with his army, and Maria greets him in Błonie near Warsaw. At a ball she dances with him. Yet the heart is not idle. The Emperor seeks to win her over, sending her precious jewels. At first Walewska does not know what to do. Eventually she agrees to a private meeting with Napoleon and goes to the castle. She separates from her husband and from then on remains constantly by the side of the great commander. Any disagreements between them were dispelled by the hope of the birth of young Napoleon, who was destined to take his father’s place in the continuing struggle for the freedom of nations. The film has not survived.
